The 10th Annual Snake Reunion and Eta Beta Alumni Association was a success. It was held in Greenville on October 20-21, 2017 and headquartered at the Wingate Hotel and banquet at the Greenville Country Club. Those who attended and took photos are encouraged to email their photos for possible use on this site to tjw@tjwlc.com. We would like to showcase more photos for alumni viewing. Also a great deal of thanks go to Mike Cunningham, Danny Wood, Jim Stout, Ray Spears and others for making the event another huge success.
This year our Distinguished Service Award was named the Millard D. Maloney Distinguished Service Award and was presented by Brother Lyle W. Cooper to Brother Roddy Jones, who was under the weather and couldn't attend BUT did participate by phone and spoke to those at the banquet when it was announced that he had won the award. Also, we were pleased to have Millard's wife, Gwenn Maloney with us for the banquet and presentation. Mike Cunningham also announced that the Snake Reunion and Eta Beta Alumni Association would be sending a dozen white roses to Gwenn's home after she returned. Brother Danny Wood also explained to the members of the newly established chapter that they wouldn't even be a Sigma Nu had it not been for Millard's early efforts on their behalf. Many will remember it was Danny Wood, Millard Maloney, Bobby Tuttle and Jim Stout who triggered the formation of the Snake Reunion and Alumni Association.
The Alumni Association also presented the first Eta Beta Scholarship of Excellence this year. Five new brothers were eligible and the winner has better that a 3.9 average. The first ever winner is Brother Brock Kittle, HB 449, who is a a member of the returned new Eta Beta Chapter on the ECU campus. Danny Wood plkayed a key roll with Jolene McCann in getting the scholarship established.
The evening's final award was presented by Glenn Woodard to Joseph Henry Arnoult, who received the Madras Shirt Award. This award had been given six or less times to some of the brothers who were in the First Charter of Eta Beta and knew the significance of a Madras shirt "back in the days."
