W. Keats Sparrow 2021 Awards at ECU |
Wendell Keats Sparrow became as Sigma Nu Brother, as Eta Beta 60, in December of 1960, at East Carolina College/University. This brother and English major went on to get his doctorate in English and became chairman of the English Department at East Carolina University. After he passed away the W. Keats Sparrow Awards were established as part of the Joyner Library Advancement Council. Brother T. Jerry Williams, HB 67, in now a member of that council and the 2021 Awards Celebration was held on October 1st, so brother Williams missed most of the Annual Snake Reunion Meeting to attend the event as a way for a brother to honor Keats and as part of the Joyner Library Advancement Council activities of that day. Janice S. Lewis, Director of Joyner Library presided as Ruby Bradford received the First Place Award for her writing, "Academic Performance of Boys and Girls." The Second Place Award went to Peston Broadus for "Ethical & Safety Concerns in Genetically Modified Humans." He was unable to attend but family members were there.
Below are several photos from the event in honor of Brother Keats. Jan Lewis opened the event, Ruby Brandford spoke and accepted her award and the final photo is of Brother Williams congratulating Ruby on her First Place W. Keets Sparrow Award.
