The Sigma Nu Alumni of East Carolina University held their 11th Annual Snake Reunion & Eta Beta Alumni Association meeting October 18-20, 2018 at the Wingate in Greenville. While the ECU Pirates did not do so well during their game against the Florida team, those participating in the Snake Reunion and Alumni Association meeting had a great weekend of fun and fellowship. We felt sorry for those who missed it.

During the Friday evening banquet at the Rickhouse American Restaurant, Brother Mike Cunningham, HB 155, called the meeting to order to order. Brother T. Jerry Williams, HB 67. then announced we had lost two brothers since last year's reunion. They are Phillip Ellis Langford, HB 66 and Thomas Preston Baker, HB 118. He then gave the invocation.
Brother Williams also announced that Lyle William Cooper, who was a Kappa Sigma Nu and became HB 28, is the recipient of the Millard Maloney Distinguished Service Award for 2018.
Next, Brother Cunningham presented Brother Andrew William Lee, HB 483, with the $1,000 Scholarship Award. Andrew is the second recepient of "The Eta Beta Sigma Nu Scholarship for Excellence."
Five new brothers competed for the Award and their essays are featured in this report. You may download all five essays for review, as found on our Scholarship Essay Page. However, here we are posting a copy of the winning essay by Andrew Lee. Still, we hope you will take time to read all. Andrews will be posted on the essay page as well as here. Next, Brother Joseph Henry Arnoult, HB 61, presented the Madras Shirt Award to Druid D. "Dixie" Hobgood, Jr., HB 15.
Allison Denning, wife of Brother David L. Denning, HB 182, was introduced and auctioned off several copies of her book, I'M NOT JUST DIFFERENT. It won her the Mom's Choice Award, Honoring Excellence. Four individual brothers paid $120 each for an autographed copy of Allison's book, illustrated by Thelma Kat Ferry, about a child with Autism. It should be noted that Allison has plans for a number of other books that will be dedicated to helping parents of children with Autism and other illnesses. So we’ll be waiting for her next book to be published.
The banquet concluded with Brother Cunningham introducing a number of brothers from the newly established chapter and those present hear from them. The Eta Beta Chapter has the highest academic standing on campus at this time and are or top of the list in other areas. One of our new brothers was elected King of the Homecoming Court and the chapter parade float with another group won best in the Homecoming Parade. So, yes, we are expecting great things from our new Sigma Nu Brothers.
We hope you enjoy the photos from the 2018 Reunion and Alumni Association meeting.
