The Creed

The Eta Beta Chapter of Sigma Nu has returned to the campus of East Carolina University. The Snakes are back!

Richard R. (Dick) Fletcher
Several brothers have asked about Richard R. Fletcher, who served as Executive Secretary of Sigma Nu Fraternity from 1956 until 1972.  We remember him here because it was Dick Fletcher who recommended the Kappa Sigma Nu Colony become the Eta Beta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity. As a result, Sigma Nu was the first social fraternity approved for the campus of East Carolina College.

Fletcher and Charles F. Vance, Jr., Division 8 Commander made their visit to East Carolina College to determine if ECC qualified for a Sigma Nu Chapterand on December 10, 1957, their Summary Report was submitted to Sigma Nu Fraternity recommending the estabishment of what became the Eta Beta Chapter. Playing a significant role in that recommendation were Jimmy Phelps, Roddy Jones and Charlie White. A copy of that two-page "Summary Report" was provided to us in scanned format by Jim Phelps. Each page is seperately posted for review and printing on this page.  However viewers may have to highlight, copy and paste the report to print and read.

Below is a photo of Mr. Fletcher, whom many of us remember as "Mr. Sigma Nu."  Those who knew him remember him fondly and his photo can be found below.  While the Fletcher photo is not perfect we felt making Dick Fletcher a part of the Snake Reunion website was important because so many of us met him during our trip to "The Rock" or at other locations. And too, he personified the Creed of Sigma Nu. At some point we hope to have a better photo for our files.
