Raleigh--

2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

William Grant Flowers, known to his brothers as "FAT MAN," was born February 20, 1938 in Kenly, NC to William Addie and Effie Flowers. Graduating high school from Edwards Military Institute, he acquired the name "Fat Man" and discovered the Carolina Shag Dance. The name and love of shaggin' followed him to East Carolina University where he met the love of his life, Barbara whom he wed in 1958. At ECU he became a member of Kappa Sigma Nu Fraternity and was loyal to the Eta Beta Chapter of Sigma Nu that followed. As a member of the Snake Reunion he also worked and supported efforts to bring a Sigma Nu chapter back to East Carolina.

Following graduation, he entered the business world and introduced himself to new acquaintances as Bill; however, the name Fat Man lived on forever. He is survived by his wife Barbara of 58 years, two daughters, Julie Foley and her husband Charles of Durham, NC, daughter Suzanne Flowers of Jacksonville, FL and four grandchildren: Katherine Foley, Kevin Foley, Davis Janolino and Madison Janolino.

A celebration of his life is be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11 AM at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC. Prior to the service, the family will receive visitors from 10-11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church or Transitions LifeCare formerly Hospice of Wake County.

Arrangements for the Flowers family are under the care of Bryan-Lee Funeral Homes, Raleigh.
