On Saturday, April 23rd, a group of brothers from multiple decades at ECU, participated in a ceremony to induct 37 candidates as pledges to Sigma Nu. These new pledges should be eligible for brotherhood in the fall. Therefore, the Eta Beta Charter restoration has been approved by Sigma Nu's national headquarters. This effort comes about as a result of the past eight Snake Reunons, when Millard Maloney, Danny Wood and Jim Stout began an effort (almost nine years ago) to have the first reunion of members of the Eta Beta Chapter and when during our seventh and eighth reunion a group of the younger brothers began taking part and playing leadership roles in the reunion effort.
Raymond Fackler (from the Sigma Nu national headquarters) has been working for the last semester to attract a group of qualified candidates to join the first pledge class in recent years in order to bring Sigma Nu and the Eta Beta Chapter back to the East Carolina campus. This is someting many brothers have been working on since our reunion was held in Lexington, VA at national headquarters a few years ago.
Since the eighth Snake Reunion last year, Mike Cunningham and Ray Spears have been working with Danny Wood, Jim Stout and Millard Maloney to bring back the chapter; and with 37 candidates who want to be Sigma Nu brothers, the return of the Eta Beta Chapter is off to a good start and assured. Further, our nineth Snake Reunion scheduled for the fall should be the biggest and best ever. We encourage all of our brothers and friends of Sigma Nu as well as those 37 new candidates/pledges to participate.
Below is a pictorial view (two slide shows) of the event that resulted the induction of 37 potential candidates pledging Sigma Nu. And too, pictured below is a photo by Brother Gary Pellock of the 37 who wish to become Sigma Nu brothers. Below that photo we've also featured the Eta Beta Charter Documents from May 16, 1959.
