Edwin French 'Alex' Eager, also known as 'Ed' to many of his fellow pledges and the brothers of the Sigma Nu Eta Beta Chaper at ECC/ECU, passed away peacefully in his home in Sarasota, Florida, on July 17, 2015, at the age of 69.
He was the son of Col. Howard and Dorothea Lloyd (Conger) Eager, and was born on November 6, 1945, in Staunton, VA. He spent his childhood in Staunton at Breezy Hill, the home of his beloved grandparents, Edwin Fisher and Dorothea (Tatum) Conger, along with his brothers Howard Lloyd and Conger Rosse Eager. He graduated from Christchurch School and attended East Carolina University where he pledged Sigma Nu Fraternity.
In his early adulthood he traveled widely and lived in Jamaica, New Orleans, and California before settling in Sarasota in 1985. He had a wide community of friends, in Sarasota and throughout the country, whom he stayed in touch with throughout his life. Alex loved the ocean and the beach and after thirty years in Sarasota he still loved to spend his evenings watching the sunset over the water.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle nature, easy laugh and keen intellect. He was passionate about animals and loved his dogs, cats and birds. He had a wide knowledge of books, music and art and his friends loved him for his creative spirit, generous nature and true joie de vivre.
Alex is survived by his wife, Beverly Eager, his daughters Parke Capshaw and Grayson Dempsey, his stepchildren Marsol and Solmar Booty, as well as two granddaughters.
Burial is to be held at a later date in Staunton, VA. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Sarasota County.
