All participants, friends and guests from Kappa Sigma Nu and the Eta Beta Chapter of Sigma Nu, at East Carolina, received a warm welcome in Lexington, VA throughout the Fourth Snake Reunion, September 27-30, 2011. In fact one participant commented on how even the merchants downtown were pleased to see our folks around town. The Hampton Inn Col Alto, officials from Sigma Nu's National Headquarters, and the general staff all made everyone feel welcome.

Brotherhood Meeting Report from Jim Stout, Eta Beta #71
This reunion would not have been possible without the support of more than sixty brothers that made financial donations for this our fourth reunion. I especially would like to thank brothers Danny Wood, Millard Maloney and Jerry William for keeping the reunions alive and well. Also the Eta Beta brothers that were born in Virginia or now live in Virginia for their support in making this reunion a class act: Joe Arnoult, Al Bennett, Lyle Cooper, David Howard, Darrell Hurst, “Bolo” James, Johnny Jones, Tommy Kidd, Millard Maloney, Ralph Stone, Jim Stout, Dickie Tayloe and Danny Wood.
Business Meeting: Thursday, Sept 29th. 2011 Twenty-two (22) KSN or Eta Beta brothers were in attendance at Sigma Nu’s National Headquarters.
In their memory, Brother Jerry William called the roll of all deceased KSN and Eta Beta brothers at the Brotherhood meeting (and did so again at the Annual Banquet). Brad Beacham, Executive Director of Sigma Nu gave a report from Sigma Nu’s National Office:
a. Alumni Chapter Status (see notes on structure given by Brother Danny Wood) b. Possibility of an Eta Beta Colony at ECU; Sigma Nu is willing to work with us if we so wish to proceed with an Eta Beta Colony at ECU. We need to talk with ECU administration to get a feeling of their stance on fraternities in general and specifically if or what we as an Alumni Association need to do for a successful Colony. c. Information on the Grand Chapter reunion. (more on that to follow) Fund raising report: by Brother Danny Wood
With some donations still coming in Brother Danny Wood reported that over sixty brothers/wives had donated over eight thousand dollars for SR #4. It was explained that this money would be used for reunion expense and any funds left over, would be rolled over into the reunion in Greenville, 2012. Those who wish to see the donation list and the amount given by each brother may contact Brother Danny Wood. Treasurer’s report: by Brother Millard Maloney Brother Maloney reported that as of Sept. 29th the account balance was $10,382.14 with several deposits to be made. That amount did not include any expenses of SR-R which will run about $7,500.00. A full disclosure will be available when all expenses of SR-4 are finalized.
New business:
Future Memorials for deceased brothers: Brothers voted to have a nice sympathy card made up to include “Eta Beta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity at East Carolina” on the front of the card along with a replica of the Sigma Nu crest. Jim Stout was given the task of having these cards made up on nice stock paper. Memorial brick for Brother Bobby Tuttle: Brother Jerry Williams suggested that for $200 a memorial brick can be placed along the “Pathway of Honor” at National Headquarters. Immediately, Brother Joe Arnoult passed the hat/cap and $216.00 was raised by the brothers at the meeting to purchase the memorial brick. It will be placed in the Memorial Flag Pavilion along The Pathway of Honor. Brother “Tut” was loved by all and his work in previous reunions was recognized and continues to be greatly appreciated. It should also be noted that Brothers Dempsey Williams, Charles Rodgers and Glenn Dyer also have memorial bricks in the “Memorial Flag Pavilion” at National. Those bricks honor three of our fallen Brothers, who died while serving their country. However, any brother who served in the military is eligible to have a brick placed in the Memorial Flag Pavilion or along The Pathway of Honor by making a donation to the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation.
Alumni Status Report: by brother Danny Wood
Brother Danny Wood discussed forming an Alumni Chapter and presented a possible Alumni structure. After much discussion, those present voted to officially name it the Eta Beta Alumni Association with a board composed of the following positions:
Eminent Commander Lieutenant Commander Recorder Web Page Director Treasurer Fund Raiser Director Reunion Director, and Four at large members with one from each of the following: a. Kappa Sigma Nu b. Early Eta Beta c. Middle Eta Beta d. Last Eta Beta
The group of eleven officers (High Council or Alumni Association Board) will meet during the winter of 2011-12 to write the Alumni Association by-laws and formulate a vision for the future of Eta Beta (Please remember it took only three VMI “Keydets” to start this great fraternity of Sigma Nu).
Note: If any brother or wife wants to serve on this council/alumni board, please pass the names along to brother Stout, Wood, Maloney, or Williams. All help and dedication to Eta Beta will be greatly appreciated. It was also suggested and approved that Brenda Kintz, the wife of deceased brother Donnie Kintz be eligible to participate on this council board. There were no objections!
Announcement:
During the “Va. Pig Picking” it was announced that brother Tom Glass, HB 321, had become engaged at the “Rock” to Jill Blalock! This might be a first for National! Please check out the pictures on this website. We wish Brother Tom and Jill the best and look forward to seeing them at future reunions. Way to go Tom! You make us “ol Nu’s” feel young!
Future reunions: The next Snake Reunion will be in the Fall of 2012, in Greenville, as we return to East Carolina University. Brother Wayne Holloman has volunteered to head up SR #5. It was also suggested that I contact Brother Ray Spears and ask him to assist Wayne. We all look forward to returning to ECU!
It was also suggested that we look to Greensboro and Morehead City (Atlantic Beach) as future site for our reunions. Please give us your suggestions.
After adjourning the meeting, the brothers joined their wives and friends in a photo opt at “The Rock” and then enjoyed a picnic lunch. Later that evening our reunion banquet was held at Lexington Country Club where a check for $500 was presented to the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation by brother Millard Maloney.
