By now many of you may have learned that our 4th Snake Reunion (SR #4) in Lexington, Virginia, and our "Return to the Rock" were both a huge success. The High Council made it happen and made it happen well! However, since SR #5 will be held in Greenville, in 2012, the High Council's work is done!
Members present at the Brotherhood Meeting voted to establish a new Sigma Nu Alumni Chapter, with a new alumni board, to manage our Snake Reunion activities. The Alumni Board will replace the High Council but each reunion will still be referred to as a Snake Reunion; while we will now be organized as the Eta Beta Alumni Association. Jim Stout, Danny Wood and others were directed to draft by-laws and will be providing complete information on the structure of the board and new officers in the very near future.
Sigma Nu officials R. Brad Beacham, Executive Director, Todd M. Denson, Director of Alumni and Volunteer Programs and Brad Hastings, President of the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation, each praised the Snake Reunion for taking this bold action and making a commitment to establish an Eta Beta alumni chapter, with a goal of also eventually bringing Sigma Nu back to the East Carolina campus.
The 22 brothers participating in the Brotherhood Meeting also voted and contributed funds to purchase a memorial brick, to be placed in the Memorial Flag Pavilion, along the "Pathway of Honor" in memory of Robert Myron "Bobby" Tuttle, HB 103, who served as a member of the Snake Reunion High Council until he passed away in September. That brick was ordered immediately following the meeting.
"Tut", as some of us called him, had made many significant contributions to all four Snake Reunions. Fro example, it was he who created the Snake Reunion shirts and two decals that many proudly own and display. He also worked to create the lapel pin that was given to participants in SR# 3. One of his last acts was to donate his East Carolina logo golf bag to be given away as part of this year's golf tournament.
A rendering of the Robert M. Tuttle memorial brick will be sent to Tut's daughter, Megan, by the National Sigma Nu Headquarters as he joins a legion of other brothers across America on The Pathway of Honor.
See the note at the bottom of this page about viewing the long pages and printing or saving photos. Heavy fines will be issued against Jolene McCann and Gwenn Maloney for not showing up to take photos this year. Also, Steve Hockman will be fined three times as much for promising he would attend a Snake Reunion and not doing so after two years. Walter Bost and Burt Stancil have also used up their excuses!

This year's Snake Reunion began with check-in and registration at the Hampton Inn Col Alto on Tuesday, September 27th at 3:00 p.m. followed by the opening social at the Historic Log Cabin on the Hampton Inn property, located across the street from Sigma Nu's Educational Foundation and Headquarters.
Wednesday, was golf day for our golfers, beginning at 10:00 a.m. over at the Lexington Golf & Country Club. Others took part in a Historic Tour and Shopping in the town. That evening participants took part in a Virginia Pig Picking, held on the grounds of Sigma Nu Headquarters. Musical entertainment was by Boogie King's Band with some intermission music featuring a couple of songs from Harold Langdon's CD, HOUND DOG BLUES. Afterwards the group returned to the Historic Log Cabin for more snacks and drink.
Thursday, September 29, following the excellent complimentary breakfast at the Hampton, a Brotherhood Meeting took place at Sigma Nu Headquarters. The official Eta Beta Flag was on display for the meeting. While the brothers were meeting, others took part in a Lexington Carriage Tour.
Then sometime around noon the Annual Brotherhood Meeting (ABM) adjourned for a very nice lunch on the Headquarters grounds, catered by Aramark. Those cookies served were to die for. Following lunch, some participated in a guided tour of National Headquarters and then everyone present took part in the "photo op" for group pictures, some of which are found on this site.
Naturally, the Historic Log Cabin was again opened until it was time to depart that evening for the Annual Banquet.
The fourth Snake Reunion Banquet was held at the Lexington Golf & Country Club. Kappa Sigma Nu brothers, Eta Beta brothers and guest were well entertained and enjoyed a fine meal and good company. Jazz artist Liz Barnes entertained.
Special guests for the banquet were Brad Beacham and Todd Denson. Both had also participated in our Brotherhood Meeting earlier that day, as referenced above.
Following the banquet, you guessed it, the Historic Log Cabin was opened again. One would have thought that Abe Lincoln was a special guest of SR #4 because of all the activities in the Log Cabin.
Beginning Wednesday evening and throughout Thursday folks were coming and going and then on Friday morning, after a great breakfast at the Hampton, those remaining took flight home and the Historic Log Cabin was closed to the Snake Reunion until our next "Return to the Rock".

Below are three selections of the 11 songs on Harold Langdon's CD, titled Hound Dog Blues. During our Wednesday evening reception and dinner Harold donated 10 CD's that were then sold to raise money for our Snake Reunion kitty. Harold and Fatman Flowers were the two KSN brothers who participated in SR #4 and previous reunions but never were able to become Eta Beta brothers as Lyle Cooper, Roddy Jones and a few others did. However, their roles in establishing the Eta Beta chapter were significant and they continue to play a role in the Snake Reunions.
Now...be sure to click on and play the three Harold Langdon songs below. You are gonna love the sax. Also, allow about 10 seconds or so for the songs to load and be sure your speakers are turned up!
