"We ARE the Sigma Nu Snakes from East Carolina"

Tayloe Hospitality in Lexington
Dinner with Dickie and Louise
Part 5

Brother Stout said his goodbyes to the two Sigma Nu motorcyclists around 3:45 PM on Friday, October 23rd to allow Brother’s Williams and Young a little R&R before they prepared to receive Brother Dickie Taylor and his wife Louise, of Charlottesville.  The plan was that Dickie and Louise would have decided in advance on a restaurant location for dinner.

They arrived around 6:30 PM and Louise drove her three Sigma Nu passengers downtown to the restaurant they had selected. Unfortunately, since it was a Friday night and Lexington was hopping, even though it had started to rain, the restaurant wait was too long but the operator of the bistro headed them down to an Italian restaurant a few doors away.  Little did Williams and Young know that rain would be a significant part of their return trip between Lexington and Reidsville.

Dinner with the Tayloe’s was special and the service was excellent so they settled in for a leisurely meal of excellent food and drink. Everyone was sorry that Brother Stout and his wife, Sally, were unable to join them.

The Brothers talked about everything under the sun, from families, work, retirement, military service, their days at East Carolina and Sigma Nu.  The Tayloe’s also stressed the idea of having a First Charter Snake Reunion in Lexington, a topic Brother Stout had brought up several times that day.
Both Williams and Young said the now saw how a very successful Snake Reunion could be arranged in Lexington, VA, in connection with a visit to The Rock. They had been assured by Todd Denson at National that the Sigma Nu headquarters team would assist with the planning and arrangements.

Williams said he was not pleased with his visualization of a gathering at The Rock. He noted that
Brother Denson had told them earlier in the day that his office could plan an event/meal at VMI and could also have a function at the Country Club. National would be pleased to work with Snake Reunion at all levels of such a plan. Brother Young then pointed out that the Hampton Inn was an historical facility and not the normal Hampton Inn.

After several hours of good food, drink and fraternizing , in the Sigma Nu tradition, the meal and evening came to an end with an invitation from the Tayloe’s to stay over with them another day.  Brother Tayloe said they could get wet at a football game instead of getting wet on their motorcycles.  However, both Young and Williams were committed to returning to Charlotte and Raleigh, come rain or shine. It turned out to be rain…lots of rain.  However, the Tayloe hospitality was the best!
